Objective: This multi-site (n =15) survey study is designed to better understand adherence to ETI (Trikafta) among people with cystic fibrosis ages 7 and older. A range of modifiable factors (e.g., perception of physical health, body image concerns) will be assessed as potential predictors of ETI adherence and CF clinic visit attendance.

Objective: The goal of this project is to obtain quantitative survey data and qualitative feedback from a subsample of caregivers of children (ages 10-17 years) who participated in an asthma education project (“Implementing and Promoting Standards of Asthma Awareness and Self-Management Education for Admitted Patients with Uncontrolled Symptoms”). These data will be used to better understand the benefits and challenges associated with implementing this routine program in patient care and to inform future modifications in the program’s approach and content.

Objective: This two-phase, multi-site (n = 6) project: (a) used provider, patient, and caregiver input and feedback to establish feasibility, structure, and content for a novel, patient-centered, flexible tele-coaching intervention to enhance adherence in adolescents and young adults with cystic fibrosis; & (b) tested the tele-coaching intervention with a group of patients (ages 14-25 years) to obtain estimates of feasibility, acceptability, and treatment change across several months.

Rackow Objective: The overarching aim of this research is to adapt a promising and evidence-based intervention that helps adolescents with asthma assume greater responsibility for taking their medication regularly and effectively, and to subsequently test the feasibility and acceptability of the adapted intervention through key stakeholders.
Collaborator (Unfunded). How can we explain impairments in executive functioning? The role of chronic pain and social context during adolescence. Royal Society of Edinburgh Research Sabbatical Grant. £62,799 (Total Costs). Approved for funding period 06/01/2019 - 05/31/2020. Principal Investigator: L. Caes. Objective: This pilot study investigates the association between executive functioning, chronic pain and social context using a novel multi-method approach in 40 adolescents (12-21years; 50% pain-free) and a parent. The outcomes will contribute to building a comprehensive model outlining the factors contributing to impaired executive functioning and the impact on quality of life.

Objective: This research collaboration/travel grant (CONNECT) focused on understanding how to enhance and facilitate adolescent self-management of a chronic health condition and to promote the investigators’ development and success of future collaborative grant applications in the area. It involved a 2-week visit to various sites in Scotland. Co-Principal Investigator.Community childhood asthma detection and barrier identification. West Virginia Clinical and Translational Science Institute. $48,766 (Direct Costs). Approved for funding period: 10/01/2017 - 12/31/2018. Co-Principal Investigator: M. Landvoigt, MD. Objective: To test the feasibility and effectiveness of a systematic, countrywide asthma screening pilot program and better characterize community-specific barriers to optimal pediatric asthma diagnosis and care in this rural, Appalachian setting.
